The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern and Fine Gael leader, Enda Kenny will take part in a live head-to-head debate on RTÉ, a week before polling on May 17 thnext.

The debate, which will last just over an hour, will be held during PrimeTime and is to be chaired by Miriam O'Callaghan. It will be broadcast immediately after the 9 o'clock news.

RTÉ  is also planning adebate between Progressive Democrat leader Michael McDowell, Green Party leader Trevor Sargent and the Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams on May 16 th. Mr Sargent and Mr Adams have already agreed to take part. RTE is awaiting a response from the Tánaiste
