THE Aer Lingus group faces the prospect of renewed industrial unrest this summer in both its airline services and its TEAM subsidiary. SIPTU says it will serve strike notice for the end of this month if a dispute involving cabin crew is not resolved quickly.
Meanwhile, TEAM has sacked the chairman of the shop stewards' committee, Mr Denis Smyth, for organising a shop floor union meeting last March.
A strike in June by cabin crew would hit the company at the beginning of its busiest period and the company is seeking a meeting with the union as a matter of urgency.
Cabin crew have voted two to one for industrial action over arrangements to deploy additional crew from Delta Airlines. The Aer Lingus crews rejected a recommendation from their negotiators to accept a Labour Relations Commission recommendation to allow Delta personnel to operate on the Aer Lingus flights for a trial period.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the shop stewards' committee at TEAM Aer Lingus has been sacked. Mr Denis Smyth, who is an avionics engineer, has been with the Aer Lingus group for 25 years.
The action was taken because of the calling of a union meeting on March 26th which the company says disrupted production.
