Advice groups have provided guidelines for students and parents on how to deal with the release of the Leaving Certificate results tomorrow.
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) is asking parents to support their children regardless of their results.
“If the results are disappointing they will need someone to listen, well-meaning advice may not be helpful for now. Reaffirming that you are proud of them and that you believe in them will help them face the path ahead,” the charity’s advocacy manager, Mary Nicholson, said.
"Parents should focus on the child’s strengths, achievements and unique qualities. This will really help to build up their confidence and self-belief again.”
The ISPCC childline service is available at all times on 1800-666666.
The National Parents' Council (NPC) also provides advice and guidance for parents - with professional guidance counsellors - for one week following the issue of the results. The NPC helpline number is 1800-265165.
Drinkaware.ie, an initiative set up by the drinks industry-sponsored group MEAS (Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society) has asked young people to take care when heading out at night.
