Arrangements are being made for Mr Gerry Adams to address Irish emigrants in the US and Canada on a live television satellite link on the eve of the election in the North, reports Joe Carroll.
The Friends of Sinn Fein in New York, who are co ordinating the arrangements in the city, say that the broadcast on May 29th will be beamed into Irish clubs, Ancient Order of Hibernians' venues and pubs across the US and Canada. It may also be transmitted to Irish groups in Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Adams's address will last about 30 minutes. Given the timing he is expected to explain to the Irish diaspora the Sinn Fein position on taking part in the election and what the party hopes to achieve.
The organisers claim this will be the first time that "an Irish leader" has made such a live television address to the Irish emigrant body.
