The Government is to establish an advisory and implementation group, co-chaired by Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, to maximise the benefits from the Global Irish Economic Forum.

In his address to participants, which include 270 members of the Global Irish Network and representatives from political, business and cultural spheres, Mr Gilmore stressed the importance of following up on the event.

The Government’s planned advisory and implementation group will include members of the Global Irish Network from each of the main geographic areas represented at this week’s event.

Mr Gilmore said the group will meet twice a year and will be tasked with implementing, where appropriate, initiatives that might emerge from the forum and co-ordinating the network’s overall work programme. The non-Government representatives will also be tasked with working with Ireland’s Ambassadors in keeping the wider network informed.
