Jakarta - At least 94 people were killed and more than 30 injured in west Java when landslides caused by heavy rain crashed into settlements at the weekend.

Many of the dead were gold-miners at makeshift mines in ravines and gorges, an Indonesian government official said.

Heavy rain also caused flooding in east Java, although no casualties were reported.
