Provisional statistics released by the Garda tonight reveal that a total of 479 motorists were arrested for suspected drink driving over the bank holiday weekend.
The statistics also reveal that during the seven day period from March 12th to March 18th inclusive a total of 487 motorists were arrested, an increase of 81 over the previous weeks figures.
So far this year, 68 people have been killed on the State's roads.
