Beijing - A huge blast blamed on illegally-stored explosives killed 41 people and injured 89 in north-western China yesterday, state media said.

A dozen people were buried underground following the explosion in the village of Mafang, Hengshan County, in the province of Shaanxi. Police were seeking the owner of an explosives manufacturing plant officially closed in April.
