Gardaí in Limerick have released without charge four people held for questioning in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man in Limerick early on Monday morning and detained another four people in connection with the incident.

The four people arrested this afternoon  -  two men and two women- are all in their 20s and 30s. They are being questioned at garda stations across Limerick.

Martin O'Donoghue was found stabbed to death on Broad Street in the city centre early on Monday.

The Garda said it was pleased with the progress of its inquiries into the stabbing which took place during a street brawl.

A number of knives were recovered close to the scene including one believed to be the murder weapon.
