UNITED NATIONS - The US, which has previously supported making Germany and Japan permanent members of the 15-nation Security Council, said yesterday it would also back permanent seats for three Southern developing countries from Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
But on the question of veto rights, the State Department spokesman, Mr Nicholas Burns, said: "We have not taken a position on the veto for new permanent members including Japan and Germany, but we will oppose any resolution which infringes on prerogatives for current permanent members." - (Reuter)
