Three prisoners were charged yesterday over an assault on a prison officer in Limerick Prison.
The prison officer, Mr Alan Kavanagh (40), received 65 stitches to the face and neck following the January attack.
Appearing before Limerick District Court were Paul Dixon, (33), of Brendan House, Brendan Road, Dublin; Gerard Longworth (18), of Coole Park, Bohermore, Galway; and John Paul Scullion (19), of Cronan Lawn, Shannon, Co Clare.
They are each charged that they intentionally or recklessly caused serious harm to Mr Kavanagh on January 5th.
Garda Insp John Murphy, of Henry Street station, applied for the three to be remanded in custody for a week on the basis of the gravity of the charges.
Judge John O'Neill reman ded the three in custody until next Thursday.
