£20,000 for man shot by police

A man who was shot in the leg by a policeman was awarded £20,000 agreed damages in the High Court in Belfast yesterday.

A man who was shot in the leg by a policeman was awarded £20,000 agreed damages in the High Court in Belfast yesterday.

Mr Samuel Robert McDowell (24), a labourer, from Lislunnan Road, Kells, Co Antrim, was wounded in October, 1993. The shooting happened after police responded to a "999" call that Kells health centre was being damaged.

Mr McDowell was sitting on a nearby wall when he was struck by a ricochet bullet which had been fired at a second man who suffered a number of gunshot wounds.
