A Dublin school caretaker, already serving five years for raping and indecently assaulting his wife's niece 20 years ago, has been given a further two-year jail term. The man (54) pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to indecently assaulting another girl then aged 8-10 in the 1970s. The abuse was revealed to gardai when they approached the woman, now 32, as a witness in the case involving the defendant's niece.
Mr Justice Carney suspended the final 18 months of the two-year sentence to take account of his guilty plea. Last November he pleaded guilty to two charges of rape and two of indecent assault on dates from 1976 to 1978.
