Nairobi - Floods have already killed more than 2,000 Somalis and left hundreds of thousands homeless, and the country now faces more torrential rains, the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) said yesterday.

Southern Somalia has been hit by torrential rains since last November, which meteorologists have blamed on the weather phenomenon El Nino. Last week the WFP made an urgent appeal for $17 million to finance the delivery of 1.1 million tonnes of food to flood victims in Somalia and Kenya.
