The remains of a body, believed to be from the 17th century, have been found in Smithfield in Dublin city.

The discovery was made by builders earlier today as part of the Smithfield Enhancement Works ongoing in the area.

The find is thought to be from the 1600s due to a glazed earthenware pot also found beside the body.

A spokesman from Dublin City Council said that the remains were most likely going to be excavated as a pipe needed to be laid in the area.
