Gardaí investigating criminals dealing heroin, cocaine, cannabis, and ecstasy in Cork Cork have arrested 15 people over last 48 hours.
The suspects, predominately in their 20s, were arrested as part of Operation Reuben, which has been ongoing for at least six months.
A total of 11 people, two of whom are female, have been charged. Ten were due before Cork District Court today and at least one was expected to appear tomorrow. They collectively face more than 50 charges in relation to drug dealing, gardai said.
“The Operation which lasted over 6 months was carried out by Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit in conjunction with the Garda National Drugs Unit,” a spokesman said. “The Operation culminated in the last number of days with searches and arrests across Cork City”.
The spokesman said the arrests have had “a major impact on the sale and supply of controlled drugs across Cork City and County and has seriously disrupted the activities of those involved in drug dealing activity”.
He said Operation Reuben was mainly carried out over a number of weekends in the latter half of 2008 and early this year, usually involving about 10 officers each weekend. Cocaine, cannabis resin and cannabis plants with an approximate value of €6,000 were seized during the operation.
