Dar Es Salaam - Twelve children were shot and clubbed to death by rebels in their classroom in southern Burundi, the ABP news agency reported.

ABP said on Sunday that members of the National Council for the Defence of Democracy killed the children with guns, clubs and knives at their secondary school in Mabanda, Makamba Province.

The news agency, monitored by the BBC did not say when the children were killed.
