Five Dublin parishes which joined in a millennium ecumenical project intended to raise £50,000 to refurbish the Simon Community premises on Ushers Quay have raised £105,000.

The money, collected by the Catholic and Church of Ireland parishes in the Rathfarnham, Churchtown and Templeogue areas, will be used to provide new beds, windows, curtains, chairs and office equipment for Simon. This will allow Simon funds to go directly towards food and shelter for the homeless.

Yesterday, a cheque was handed over to the organisation in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Ballyroan, during an ecumenical service.
