Dublin - Mr Richard O'Brien, who is also ambassador to Australia and is based in Canberra, was sent to Indonesia by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrews. He arrived on Saturday and has been working with Ireland's Honorary Consul, Mr Niall Nelson, to ensure the welfare of Irish citizens.

The EU advice to nationals of its member-states is to consider leaving the country. Most Irish people in Indonesia work with multinational corporations and live in the Jakarta area.
