A barrister has donated £1,000 to the St Vincent de Paul society after reading about the plight of an 84-year-old traveller, whose story was told in The Irish Times on Thursday.
The man forwarded the cheque to the paper yesterday after reading how Mr Martin Donovan (above) had been living in squalor in a dilapidated caravan in Tallaght, Co Dublin.
A spokesman for the society said the donation was "most welcome" and that a new caravan would be ready for Mr Donovan by Tuesday.
