AIRPORTS:SMARTPHONES will soon track travellers movements through airports, checking them in on flights, and prompting them to board should they linger too long in the shops.

"Indoor location tracking" via smartphones is expected to become widespread in airports in coming years, allowing airlines to know exactly where passengers are according to a new report, Navigating the Airport of Tomorrow. It maintains that a lack of integration of airline and airport technology systems has led to frustration among travellers.

The report notes that “the airline passenger often encounters long lines, crowded spaces, lost baggage and service delays” and suggests the key to making airline travel a seamless journey is mobile technology, which would allow airlines to keep passengers updated on all aspects of their journey, from what time their flight will depart to the location of their luggage.
