HOPKINS LECTURE

Running until next Friday, the Gerard Manley Hopkins Literary Festival draws inspiration not only from the poet’s work, but also his literary and historical connections with Ireland. It takes place in Newbridge College, and features concerts, lectures, readings and workshops. Today’s lunchtime lecture is by Patrick Murray and it focuses on Hopkins and his influences. gerardmanley hopkins.org

Now open seven days a week to the public, this great house also hosts a series of summer events, from farmers’ markets to musical recitals. JOHN HEWITT SUMMER SCHOOL

This annual summer school opens today in the Market Place Theatre in Armagh. This afternoon, Eavan Boland gives a talk, while the lunchtime reading tomorrow is by Blake Morrison.
