Mortimer, on St Vincent's Road in Greystones, Co Wicklow, is a family home of manageable proportions which has been stylishly upgraded by its present owners. Jackson-Stops is guiding in excess of £550,000 (#698,355) in advance of the June 7th auction.

St Vincent's Road is a tree-lined route in quiet, residential Old Burnaby. Built in 1899, the semi-detached house combines old features with modern additions. New wooden floors work well with the original panelled doors, while a modern kitchen opens on to a mature garden which is oriented for day-long sunshine.

The first impression is of a home where a unified colour scheme of white, cream yellow and mid-blue give a sense of space and elegance. The rectangular hall and the dining and drawingrooms are floored in polished Canadian red oak. The drawingroom, decorated a banana yellow and with white cornices, has a fine period fireplace and a deep square bay window with stained glass feature.

The diningroom also has original windows and fireplace with Victorian tile side panels. The two rooms are connected by an arch.

A good-sized rear kitchen/ breakfastroom is fitted with extensive red oak units by John Ryan, including wine store and plate rack sections. The breakfast area has sliding patio doors to the rear garden. An adjoining utility room has a glazed door to the garden. There is a ground-floor toilet, and central heating is oil-fired.

Stairs carpeted in rust-coloured wool lead up to a small return where a smart bathroom combines a wooden floor and part panelled/painted walls with a white suite, while the bath is panelled in painted wood.

There is a separate toilet. Upstairs are four stylish bedrooms, three of which have polished pine floors, while a fourth is carpeted in beige wool cord. All rooms have good storage.

The front garden has ample car-parking, a garage and an attractive trellis with access to the rear. The sunny, walled back garden has a deep patio terrace with steps down to a lawn fringed with plants and bounded by trees and hedging.
