Smeg fridge freezer €2,150 at Fitzgerald Electric, Cork: the Smeg fridge has become something of a status symbol and while some think it's a cliché, others - given its popularity - like it for its 1950s styling.

This is the biggest of the range (others start at €1,495) and is almost half fridge and half freezer. There aren't too many fancy features but it offers a good amount of storage. It is available in all sorts of colours including black, pink, blue, green, cream and a few pastel shades.
