Broadcaster Ciana Campbell, a familiar face on RTE, is selling her Rathgar house as she and her family are relocating to Co Clare. Before making a permanent move from Dublin 6, the family tried "the good life" for a year. Now, a year later, they have made the decision to relocate permanently and their three-bedroom period house at 37 Brighton Square is for auction through Harper O'Grady on September 30th with a guide price of £400,000.
The houses on Brighton Square are all very different in terms of size and style and this turn-of-the-century house is a terraced redbrick with a bay window. In walk-in condition, it is deceptively spacious inside, with a three-storey return to the rear. The ground floor has the usual interconnecting reception rooms separated by folding doors. Both rooms have marble fireplaces. The kitchen, at the back of the house and recently fitted with attractive built-in units, has space for a good-sized dining table. French doors open to the back garden.
Upstairs the three bedrooms are all doubles. One is in the first floor return, and on up a few more steps is a larger double. The main bedroom is the nicest. It runs the width of the house and has two large windows which overlook the park, as well as the original, quite grand looking, cast-iron fireplace. Also at this level is the very small original bathroom, which the couple have converted into a shower room.
The second floor return is the surprise in this house. It has two rooms - a small, walk-in hot-press and a very large family bathroom which was originally the fourth bedroom. The owners did a lot of work on the house since moving in around seven years ago - all the basics as well as several decorative touches such as sanding and polishing the floors.
They also invested in good quality storage. The nicely planted granite-walled back garden is a good size. There is a pedestrian entrance to a rear laneway.
