A decorative delight in Dartry for €2.1m

The owners of this five-bed Edwardian redbrick semi-detached in St Kevin’s Park, Dublin 6, have put a lot of work into redecorating both inside and out

A number of houses have changed hands on St Kevin’s Park in the recent past, with the latest sale being the biggest when number 30 sold at auction for €3.5 million – €500,000 over the auction AMV (advised minimum value).

Number 15 St Kevin’s Park is just across the road on this quiet cul-de-sac, but it’s a very different house from that vast detached one; this five-bedroom, 277sq m (2980sq ft) house is for sale by private treaty through Sherry FitzGerald for €2.1 million.

It is a semi-detached Edwardian redbrick built in 1905 which last changed hands in 1991. The current owners did an enormous amount of work, both inside and out, commissioning award-winning gardener Mary Reynolds to design the back garden and Damien Costello to hard landscape the front for off-street parking, and extending and updating the interior.

Changes

Interesting changes they made include knocking through the two reception rooms for which they commissioned a decorative timber surround with ornate pediment to conceal the sliding doors.

The kitchen extension to the rear is sympathetic to the style of the house and makes room for a large eat-in kitchen (with bespoke units by Alan Brown), a good-sized utility room and a bright, relaxed family room opening out onto the back garden, with an attractive sandstone contemporary fireplace and – as in other rooms in the house – an Oakline bookcase.

Bright

There are five bedrooms over two levels, the largest with fitted wardrobes and a smart-looking en suite. Beside the fifth bedroom at the top of the house is a study area made bright by the large rooflight.

There are plenty of original Edwardian features, starting with the classic front door which still has its decorative stained glass insets.

It’s a house that has been well-maintained and decorated with a fine eye and so new owners will find little to do.
