Martello Tower, Killiney - Guide price: £2.5 millionHOK Residential is seeking about £2.5 million in a private treaty sale for the Martello Tower, off Strand Road, a striking one-bedroom house with a secret garden and direct access to the beach. The tower was renovated as a home in 1970 and has remained in the same ownership since then. There's a whiff of early James Bond about the tiny mirrored lift that goes from the circular, tiled entrance hall up to the upper ground floor bedroom, the first-floor kitchen and the top level livingroom with its 240-degree bay views. This view is slightly spoiled by a building immediately below the tower which, according to HOK's Andrew Quirke, is due for demolition.

A narrow staircase winds its way up through the building, and emerges through a floor hatch in the kitchen. The house is being sold with all its contents, but it needs total refurbishment.A walkway leads from the front door across to an enclosed garden, complete with two-bedroom chalet. The garden could be a site for yet another house, subject to planning permission.
