The beyond the Hall Door exhibition kicks off today at The Point Depot and runs over the weekend. Harassed weekend shoppers can relax . . . Superquinn will be there to promote its online shopping service, so visitors to the exhibition can order their groceries and have them delivered home.

Everything connected to interiors will be showcased, from leather bean bags to hot tubs. Habitat will be one of several design companies doing up rooms. Lighting designer Cathy Moore, who arranged the lighting for the State guest residence Farmleigh, will demonstrate how to light rooms effectively.

Bespoke furniture has a strong presence at the exhibition, with German designer Rolf Benz heading a prestigious group of furniture makers. Irish designer Simon O'Driscoll is exhibiting his collection of classic 20th century chairs. Shane Holland will be showing off his sleek new range of light fittings. including giant cone lamps made from a single mould. Children will carve a path to the numbers of artists demonstrating their crafts, principally from the Craft Network and Design Yard.

Worth seeking out are log cabins of up to 1,000 sq ft for the perfect bottom-of-the-garden hideaway. Another must-see is the latest in durable floor coverings - stone carpets made from tiny pebbles which are dyed to match room colour schemes.

Beyond the Hall Door will open today and Friday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission costs £7.50 (€9.52) for adults and £4.50 (€5.71) for pensioners. Accompanied children are free.
