Food File: ceramics, West Waterford food festival and a quiz

Marie-Claire Digby rounds up this week's food news with Rosemaire Durr’s hand-thrown pottery at sale prices and a spread of amazing chefs

REV UP FOR WEST WATERFORD

The West Waterford Festival of Food (April 15th-17th) is a not-to-be-missed gastronomic feast, with Dublin-born London restaurateur and chef Robin Gill doing a pop-up dinner in the Tannery; Graham Neville (Restaurant FortyOne), Mickael Viljanen (The Greenhouse) and Kieran Glennon (Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud) teaming up to cook a very special Sunday lunch; and maître d’ Declan Maxwell hosting afternoon tea at Lismore Castle.

Dungarvan chef Louise Clark of Nude Food will be addressing a global concern by turning food that might otherwise be discarded into a fabulous feast, accompanied by lively debate from chef Michael Quinn and food writers Joe McNamee and Dee Laffan. There will be a new Health Hub this year, and cookery demos will cover Mexican food (Javier Garduno and Lily Ramirez Foran) and Asian street food (Kwanghi Chan). westwaterfordfestivaloffood.com

POTS OF STYLE

Rosemarie Durr’s range of hand-thrown pottery with its distinctive powder-blue glaze features lots of bowls, plates, mugs and jugs that are dishwasher, oven and microwave safe – as well as being beautiful to look at.

Her spring sale runs until April 3rd, and there is up to 50 per cent off some items, with seconds reduced to clear. Ceramics by Durr’s husband Andrew Ludick will also be on sale. The pottery is at Castlecomer Discovery Park in Co Kilkenny and the opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 10.30am-5pm, and Sunday, 1-5pm. rosemariedurr.com

CULINARY QUESTIONS

How much do you know about food? The annual Great Irish Food Quiz, known for its wonderful range of prizes, as well as the fiercely competitive edge it brings out in participants, is moving to Westport this year. Quiz organiser Áine Maguire has returned to her home town to open a restaurant, The Idle Wall, and the quiz goes with her. It will take place on Thursday, May 26th in The Wyatt Hotel, and is a prelude to the Westport Food Festival (June 24th-26th). Tickets for the quiz will go on sale at eventbrite.ie
