GREG WEEKS

The Hive Wichita***

Greg Weeks, otherwise known as main man with Philadelphia psych folk revivalists Espers, is not one to let the dust gather - not when the future of the world is at stake! The Hiveis his often gloomy, intense, funereal farewell to the environment, with shades of the Incredible String Band, early Pink Floyd and faux medieval music, plus the most unrecognisable version of a Madonna hit, ever . Borderlineis slowed to a dead march pace, making it one of many dirges. And yet Weeks also has a dreamy soft touch, as on lightly spaced out Not Meant for Light. At times it seems like a particularly wacky amateur hour, which is a concept I could warm to, but limited doses would be this doctor's prescription. www.gregweeks.net
