Belsonic’s summertime romp gets off to a basstastic start with a visit from Skrillex (left). The numbers who cheer Sonny Moore’s extra-large, tumultuous beats to the heavens are probably matched by those who find Skrillex’s brostep to be on the bombastic side of the house. Regardless, few can deny the impact that the former From First to Last frontman has had since 2007, when Sonny heard Burial’s Archangel in 2007 and decided to follow the bass instead of the emo.
Over the course of several EPs and thunderous live shows (he’s now one of the US dance scene’s most bankable names), Skrillex has shown that there’ a big audience indeed for his superfried, larger-than-life succession of squeaks and bleeps.
Support tonight from Knife Party (aka Pendulum duo Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen), Kill the Noise’s electrobass don Jake Stanczak and Dillon Francis.
Can't see that? Catch this:Two Inch Punch hits Mud (Fri, Dublin); new-school DJs and producers L.A.W and Locodrum in the Stiff Kitten frame (Sat, Belfast); and Hobo Convention sell some tunes (Sun, Cork)
