TRACK OF THE WEEK: Valentine by Jessie Ware and Sampha

TRACK OF THE WEEK: Valentineby Jessie Ware and Sampha. While this isn't the most topical of tracks, the Young Turks cut is more important than it seems.

During the riots in London this week, Sony/PIAS’s distribution centre was burnt down, and almost 200 independent labels had stock destroyed. From big’uns such as Domino and XL to smaller labels such as Angular Recording Company (home to Klaxons and These New Puritans, which lost its entire catalogue in the fire) and Lucky Seven Records, it was a huge hit. With Pop Corner, I’ve (I’ll ditch the third-person thing for a sec) always tried to push independent pop-promoting labels such as Popjustice HiFi, Neon Gold and Popical Island – and urge you all to show similar support. If Jessie Ware isn’t your thing, go for SBTRKT (Young Turks), or Joanna Newsom (Drag City, also in the fire). Apologies for the soapbox – there’ll be a Dappy special next week to make up for it.

- Onwards with the news! Miley Cyrus is reportedly moving on with her acting career and is due to star in a film . . . with her mum . . . about God. The as-yet-untitled movie's plot focuses on God and a broken promise, and is helmed by Miley's mother's Hope Town Enterainment company, and has the support of one of Wedding Crashers'producers. Can't be tamed, Miley? Maybe this is your penance.

Adele has revealed her songwriting methods to the Sun. “I used to have to lock myself away in my house, get pretty drunk and write a drunk diary – and that was the first time I could admit things to myself,” she said.

“A drunk tongue is an honest one, in my opinion, and the next morning I would read it through with an awful hangover and, in the cold light of day, had to absorb my feelings about myself. I was a bit scared that I wouldn’t be articulate enough.” We’ve seen what our drunk handwriting looks like the next day, and we’re impressed Adele can read hers – let alone make sense of it.
