Artist: Carly Simon
Genre: Singer / Songwriter
Label: Rhino

Rather than issue another greatest hits collection, Carly Simon has pieced together a compilation that directly references the narrative of her recent memoir (called Songs From The Trees).

As the book concludes in 1983, so does the collection, but there isn’t a lack of good material.

Indeed, as the 1970s was Simon's most successful decade, there are many songs across this two-disc package that ably showcase her observant folk/pop songwriting; tracks such as You're so Vain, His Friends Are More Than Fond Of Robin, We Have No Secrets, Anticipation, The Right Thing To Do, and Julie Through The Glass highlight a sophisticated artist with original points of view.

Despite being underrated on this side of the Atlantic, Simon remains a songwriter of substance and originality.
