Here’s where the funk is at as the end of the decade looms. Dam- Funk’s sounds are as sprawling and technicoloured as his hometown of Los Angeles. The former session musician (he supplied synth loops for various

Dr Dre, Nate Dogg and Warren G recordings) now mines a brand of intergalatic boogie that is wider and deeper than anything else out there now. As seen on this 21-strong collection (lifted from EPs released on Stones Throw over the last few months), Dam-Funk has transformed slow-motion electrofunk, disco and boogie sounds into sleazy, slinky, sexy grooves that get heads nodding and bodies moving. These are the kind of woozy, wonky sounds you could imagine Prince would be putting his name to if he’d set up shop in an extraterrestrial part of Detroit with Juan Atkins as his mentor. www. myspace.com/ damfunk
