I Love the Noise It MakesWarner Music ***
By a certain age there's not much value left in illusions. So when Declan Sinnott states that "the record I've made is very much me", he is stressing that there is no attempt to be something he is not. Having been a key figure in the careers of, most notably, Mary Black and Christy Moore, the guitarist and producer is overdue some me time, but making a debut album at 61 leaves him vulnerable to indulgence. Sinnott skirts any such notion dexterously with 12 unhurried tracks that shine with an easy grace. It would be misleading to overstate the quality, but the songs' honesty and winning tunefulness, allied to the subtle playing and production, make this a debut of note and one that grows on you over time. There is much to savour, not least the infectious Sun Shine In, the somewhat more ominous Me and My Dark Companion, and the shimmering version of the old chestnut Corina Corina.
