Nothing But the Beat
Virgin
**
David Guetta is not the first producer to find a formula and do the dog with it. Guetta's ace in the pack involves sticking r'n'b vocals over banging trance beats. Brutally simple and hugely effective, it's a format that has worked wonders for the Frenchman since he started his run with Kelly Rowland on When Loves Takes Over.New album Nothing But the Beat does exactly what it says on the tin, with Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Jessie J and others queueing up for a touch of the Guettas. However, the album should be retitled Nothing But the Same Beat, such is the one-dimensional aspect of the producer's box of tricks. Once you've experienced the Guetta surge a few times, your enthusiasm for his big, dumb, thumping sound wanes, and you're gagging for some subtle shades to counteract the non-stop rollercoaster. The problem is that Guetta's formula doesn't allow for anything but non-stop bish-bash-boom. See davidguetta. com
