U2 released a short documentary by Ukrainian film-maker Ilya Mikhaylus on Tuesday to accompany Yours Eternally, a track from their latest EP Days of Ash.

The EP, which features five new songs and a poem, is billed by its producers as an “immediate response” to current events, inspired by the “many extraordinary and courageous people fighting on the front lines of freedom”.

Yours Eternally, the closing track on Days of Ash, sees Ed Sheeran and Ukrainian singer Taras Topolia join Bono and The Edge on vocals.

The song’s origins date back to spring 2022, shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine when Bono and The Edge travelled to Kyiv to busk in the Khreshchatyk metro station at the invitation of president Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

It was at the metro station that Bono was introduced to Ukranian musician Topolia by Ed Sheeran.

According to U2, Topolia is the inspiration for Yours Eternally, a song “written in the form of a letter from a soldier on active duty”.

Directed by Mikhaylus and produced by Pyotr Verzilov, the short film follows the soldiers of the Khartiya corps, focusing heavily on soldier Alina Shukh.

Filmed in December 2025, the short is part of a full-scale documentary set to be released at the end of 2026.

The film can be watched on the band’s YouTube.
