Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas will premiere their upcoming film Power Ballad at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre as part of the Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF) in March.

They will be joined by the film’s Irish director and screenwriter John Carney at the event.

Power Ballad will be the closing film of the festival on Sunday, March 1st.

Tickets to see the film in the Bord Gáis go on general sale on Friday, January 23rd, at 9am.

DIFF member’s, festival pass holders and Bord Gáis Energy Rewards customers have presale access to tickets.

Filmed in Ireland, the comedy musical follows a wedding singer Rick, played by Rudd, who crosses paths with fading boy band star Danny, played by Jonas, during a gig.

“Bonding over music and a late-night jam session, the two strike up an unlikely friendship,” the film synopsis says. “However, when Rick and Danny return to their respective worlds, they discover that this chance encounter will upend both their lives in very different ways.”

After the DIFF world premiere, the film will be premiered at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.

“I’m delighted to have our film, Power Ballad, close this year’s festival,” Carney, whose credits include the films Once and Sing Street, said.

He added: “Who wouldn’t want to watch Paul Rudd throw Nick Jonas off a balcony? (Seriously, that happens in our movie.)”

DIFF director Grainne Humphreys thanked the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for showcasing the closing-night film as well Liongate UK, Treasure Entertainment and Carney for “entrusting us to make it all happen”.

“It’s the perfect closing film for the 2026 festival, which features a record number of Irish features – the future of Irish cinema has never looked so bright,” Humphreys said.

The film was produced by Fís Eireann/Screen Ireland company Treasure entertainment.

The Dublin International Film Festival runs from February 19th to March 1st, with the full festival programme to be announced on January 27th. For more information, check out diff.ie.
