In the Quidnunc column of January 10th, written by Jim Dunne, it was stated that Mr Charles Haughey planned to attend a function at the National College of Art and Design with the intention of being photographed with the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern. We are advised, and accept, that Mr Haughey had no such intention and in fact did not attend the function.
A correction published in yesterday's editions stated that the US ambassador, Mrs Jean Kennedy Smith, was misquoted in a report in Tuesday's editions. Regrettably, the incorrect quotation was reproduced in yesterday's first leading article. Mrs Kennedy Smith did not say "the parties [to the peace process] themselves have taken primary credit for this [the discussion of outlines of a potential settlement]. She said "the parties . . . should take primary credit . . ."
The Prime Minister of New Zealand is Ms Jenny Shipley, not Mr Jim Bolger as stated in yesterday's column From the South East.
The caption to a picture of two acrobats in Tuesday's editions described them as members of the "French Cirque du Soleil performing at the premiere of their show in the Royal Albert Hall, London". In fact, the group is from Montreal, Quebec, Canada and they were performing at the unveiling of the new Jordan Formula One car.
