Reaping the benefit of a previous crossword

Every day is a school day when it comes to the Simplex

Sir, – I empathise with Tony Corcoran with regard to his difficulties solving 19 down last Saturday – indolent or ineffectual. In my case, it took a while but neuroplasticity brought me to “otiose” as it had appeared as a solution in a previous Simplex. Every day is a school day. - Yours, etc,

Sir, – Regarding Tony Corcoran’s comments concerning the word “otiose”, I have always considered the Simplex crossword to be not only challenging but also educational.

A perfect means by which to expand your vocabulary. A crossword which is solvable by everybody is enlightening to nobody. – Yours, etc,
