The latest version of Microsoft's operating system, Windows 98, will go on sale on June 25th, the company announced yesterday.

Officials said the new operating system represented a substantial improvement over previous versions, with greater reliability, faster performance and easier Internet access.

"Windows 98 ushers in a whole new range of hardware and entertainment functionality," the company said in a statement.

Microsoft said the programme will sell for US$109.
