Privatisation is not likely to be the best approach for VHI's future, according to Mr Richard Keatinge, managing director of IBI Corporate Finance. At a seminar on corporate strategy after the euro in Dublin yesterday, he said that, while some State companies were likely to be privatised, in some cases this would not be appropriate.

"Deregulating an industry does not necessarily mean privatising it," he said.
