The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Michéal Martin, has announced two appointments to the new board of the Labour Relations Commission (LRC).

Naming the board for the next three years, Mr Martin announced the appointment of new ministerial nominee, Gerard Barry, chief executive of the Health Service Employers Agency.

He also appointed the chief executive of Jurys Doyle Hotel Group, Pat McCann, as the new employers' nominee.

Mr Barry and Mr McCann replace Josephine Feehily of the Revenue Commissioners, who is stepping down after a six-year term. Also departing is Liam Downey, a member for more than 11 years, who has taken on the role of chairman of the Health Service Executive.

The chairman of the commission, former civil servant Maurice Cashell, has been re-appointed for a second three-year term.

The other four members who will continue to serve on the new seven-person board include IBEC's head of human resources and industrial relations, Brendan McGinty, an employers' nominee.

Peter McLoone, general secretary of IMPACT, and the assistant general secretary of ICTU, Peter Bunting, also serve on the board as workers' nominees. The other ministerial nominee is Penneys director, Breege O'Donoghue. The new board took up office on April 1st.
