Tesco Ireland has invested more than £1.5 million (#1.9 million) in its Internet shopping service in Ireland, which now operates through 10 centres with more than 25,000 individually-registered customers, the company said yesterday.

Speaking at the EAN Ireland e-commerce seminar in Dublin, Mr Paul Arnold, director of international e-commerce at Tesco.com, said that Tesco Ireland's average Internet shopping basket exceeded £100 per household with a current system capacity for up to 1,500 orders a week.
