INSTALL: Keynote, pages and numbers on your iPhone and iPod

Plenty of us use an iPhone for work but beyond the occasional email it’s largely a device for consuming information rather than creating it. Apple has addressed that now with the release of iWork, its spreadsheet, word processor and presentation suite which has been designed for touchscreen use, for the iPhone and iPod.

Already available for the iPad, versions for the smaller screen cost €7.99 each but if you have any of the iWork apps for your tablet you get a free version for your iPhone. apple.com/iwork

TURN: Facebook friends  into Gmail contacts

Friends to Gmail is a useful little web app that connects with Facebook and grabs details of your friends so that you can import them into your Gmail contacts. Information sucked in includes details such as friends' birthdays and locations. Why? you might ask. In the words of its creator, "maybe you'd like to search which of your friends worked at a certain place, or those who live in New York. Maybe you just want all your data to be in Gmail."

VIEW: The mood of Europe

The European Commission produces reams of useful statistics but, unless you are a stats nerd, the presentation and usefulness of them is not very accessible. Locus Insight, a company based in the Innovation Centre at Sligo Institute of Technology, has created the Mood of Europe application to make the information contained in the Eurobarometer surverys more user-friendly. Data are presented for 31 European countries. At a glance, you can see the Greeks trust their government more than us but are overall much less satisfied with their lot. is.gd/iDQhbZ

READ: All about the guy who stole a MacBook

Californian web designer Joshua Kaufman had his MacBook stolen from his Oakland apartment in March but the police showed little interest in investigating the theft. But Kaufman had "Hidden" installed on it - software that tracks its location and takes screen shots of the computer in use. After posting pictures of the new "owner" using the MacBook on Tumblr, the story spread. The suspect, 27-year-old Muthanna Alde-Bashi was arrested, and the MacBook was retrieved. thisguyhasmymacbook. tumblr.com
