Notion Software selects Dublin for its EMEA headquarters

Notion Software, a US tech company that has developed a popular workplace productivity platform, is to establish its European headquarters in Dublin, creating an initial 25 jobs.

The company, which is valued at over $2 billion (€1.7bn), said it has seen explosive growth over the last year for its collaboration and workplace tools. This is particularly the case in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) where it said daily active users have grown four-fold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Globally, over 10 million people currently use Notion's platform with well-known brands including Nike, McDonald's, Samsung, Lululemon and Tinder as clients. The company has an estimated 50,000 users in the Republic with customers such as Wayflyer, Storyful, Glofox, Flipdish, Hostelword and CarTrawler.

The company’s platform allows users to schedule tasks, manage files, save documents and set reminders. It charges a monthly subscription for the service for businesses but is free to use for individual users.

Founded in 2012, the San Francisco-headquartered company last year raised $50 million in a funding round led by Index Ventures.

Speaking to The Irish Times, Robbie O’Connor, who leads the country’s EMEA operations, said a third of the company’s customer base is now located in the region.

“Notion has struck a chord with users and so we’re rapidly scaling our operations to give us proximity to where our customers are. We’ve seen a 290 per cent increase in customers in the past year alone and I would see Dublin as playing a major role for the company as we continue to scale,” he said.

“Dublin is teeming with talent and a healthy tech ecosystem as well as a depth of experienced leadership that makes it a perfect location for us,” Mr O’Connor added.

The company intends to take on an initial 25 people in the areas of sales, marketing and customer experience, although Mr O’Connor said it may expand beyond this in the coming years.
