PUBLISHING:Independent games studio Digit has signed a deal with Penguin to publish a series of books based on the studio's upcoming strategy title Kings of the Realm.
The Dublin-based studio, which was founded by former Jolt, EA and Popcap industry veterans, sold the rights for the tie-in titles to Penguin after the company’s editorial director spotted a post on Twitter that had been retweeted by Sir Alan Sugar.
The fantasy game will be free to play and available on browser, Facebook, tablet and smartphone. The books will support the launch of the game, with the first title looking at the back story of the fallen realm.
“Having seen the success of our younger interactive properties like Moshi Monsters, where the online world inspires content in our books, I am very excited about bringing this type of storytelling to a teenage and older crossover audience,” said Penguin editorial director Shannon Cullen.
To be able to involve the players of the game in future narratives is an exciting, innovative approach to contemporary storytelling, and we’re delighted to be working with such a forward-thinking and creative company as Digit.”
