Japanese electronics giant Sony has seen its first-half profits plunge by nearly 25 per cent as the high value of the yen took its toll on exports, the group said yesterday.

Sony's mobile phones business was hit by heavy losses, while its entire electronics sales fell 6.8 per cent. However, sales of semiconductors and personal computers improved.
