A new report suggests Government-funded employment schemes could be of much more benefit to the participants and the community. The document, published jointly by FAS and the Dublin Inner City Partnership, says State agencies designing programmes should use local expertise more, pay more attention to the effects of long-term exclusion, ensure projects last for more than just one year, be more stringent in maintaining career progress records of participants, and allow project supervisors more flexibility.
