The proposed Government allocation of £40 million to Galway Airport, to lengthen its airstrip, has been dismissed as a waste of money by the Minister of State for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, Mr Eamon O Cuiv.

Eamonn O Cuiv, junior minister for the Gaeltacht, The Galway West TD said the airport management at Carnmore should be considering a significant expansion to cater for large aeroplanes and should relocate to Oranmore. But the airport manager, Mr John Coyle, said that the city could not sustain a development of the size envisaged by Mr O Cuiv.
